Orchard Cottage is a weekend getaway in Riebeek-Kasteel, Western Cape, completed in 2022.

This project started with an existing orchard on an empty site and a client’s dream to curate the perfect weekend home.  Riebeek-Kasteel has many Cape Vernacular homes that proudly show off their iterative renovations from Dutch to Victorian to Modern to Contemporary.  With a dream and understanding of how the local vernacular came to be, we dived into designing this beautiful home with its reclaimed sliding sash windows and meticulously crafted timberwork.  Along the way, we ensured not to harm a single olive tree and to reposition the original lemon trees carefully.  The result is a home that felt settled into the site even before the furniture arrived.
